According to wikipedia.org, which is itself a wiki, a wiki is a website that allows the easy creation and editing of any number of interlinked Web pages. They are often used to create collaborative websites. "Wiki" is a Hawaiian word for "fast."
Watch the short video below for an introduction to wikis in plain English.
Purpose:
The purpose of this wiki is to provide an online environment for educators to share their ideas for teaching students Internet safety.
Each week, you will be responsible for posting an activity sheet or short lesson plan for each safety standard.
Upon completion of the course, you will be able to access your activities/lessons as well as those created by your classmates.
The main goal is to provide you with activities and lessons that you can immediately implement in your classroom.
Directions:
When you enroll in the GCSD Internet safety course, you will receive an e-mail inviting you to join this wiki. It is a public wiki so it may be viewed by anyone but only members will be able to edit the pages.
Each week, you will need to create an activity sheet or short lesson plan based on one of the safety standards.
Save your activity or lesson plan as a MS Word document.
Go to the page for the appropriate standard and click the "edit" button from the top of the screen.
In the table, add your name, intended grade level(s), your document, and a brief description.
Please see the Help page if you need help posting your activities and lessons to the wiki.
